So if you want to lose weight, here are three steps to follow:

1. Say No to Refined Carbs

Refined carbohydrates are directly linked to a sharp increase in the risk of contracting a number of diseases, including obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. So what do refined carbs contain? Broadly speaking, according to healthline.com, they are of two types: (i) sugar: This includes processed and table sugar and (ii) refined grains like white flour. Refined carbs have no nutritional value and only add calories. Even if you can’t stay away from them completely, cut down on your intake drastically.

2. Exercise

This is the most obvious suggestion, yet the most difficult to do consistently. While diet plays a major (and main) role in weight loss, the importance of exercise cannot be stressed enough. More physical activity increases the number of calories your body uses for energy. Along with a healthy diet, regular exercise leads to a calorie deficit that will help you shed kilos.

3. Eat Healthy Fats

Experts say it’s a misconception that all types of fat are bad if you’re trying to maintain your weight. Avocados, eggs, fatty fish, nuts, olive oil are some of the healthy fats (or unsaturated fats) you can consume. What you should watch out for is trans fats – these are often added to packaged and processed foods. Then there is saturated fat which should be consumed in moderation. Meat and dairy are the primary sources of saturated fat.
