The rear seat belt campaign has been implemented recently after the death of Cyrus Mistry in a car accident. According to police officials, Cyrus Mistry (former chairman of Tata Sons) was not wearing a seatbelt at the back.
“The legal provisions were already there but after the recent incident (Mistry’s death), it has become a matter of discussion,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi Traffic) Alap Patel said.
“The Delhi Traffic Police is already running a campaign to spread public awareness about the importance of wearing seat belts. We are also taking legal action,” the police officer said.
Delhi Police on Tuesday shared a post on its Twitter handle warning people not to “over-speed” and always wear seat belts while driving. The post read, “Be well! Always #WearSeatBelt, whether you’re on the front or the back.”
