Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday expressed the possibility of introducing a bill to stop forced conversions in the state.

“Two MLAs have said that there is a need to bring a strict law. We will consider amendment or a new law in the upcoming assembly session to protect the religious harmony of the state. We respect all religions, whether Hindu, Muslim or Catholic,” he said.

Referring to the arrest of Christian priest Dominic D’Souza on charges of conversion, Sawant said, “People should come forward against such acts and reports, so that it can be stopped.”

Dominic D’Souza and his wife Joan were booked under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act for allegedly using magic to convert people.

“I congratulate those who complained against Dominic. For the last 30 years he was involved in such acts. Some politicians were saying that there was no conversion, but I hope they know about it now.” Must have gone,” Sawant said.

Sawant said, “Dominic used to implicate people in his antics, so we have taken strict action against him.”
