The Pernem police is probing a case against AAP registered under the Goa Prevention of Defacement of Property Act for allegedly pasting election posters on public walls during the Assembly campaign.

The Goa Police on Thursday issued a notice to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asking him to appear before it on April 27 in connection with the illegal pasting of posters on public properties during the 2022 Assembly election campaign.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Kejriwal has been issued a notice under Section 41 (A) of the Code of Criminal Procedure by Inspector Dilip Kumar Halarnkar of Pernem police station.

Under the section, the police can summon a person for questioning on a “reasonable” complaint or suspicion that he has committed an offence.

“During the investigation of a case of misappropriation of property, it has come to notice that there are reasonable grounds to interrogate you to ascertain the facts and circumstances with regard to the present investigation,” the notice said.

It has been said that Kejriwal should appear at Pernem police station on April 27 at 11 am.

A senior police officer said the Pernem police is probing a case registered under the Goa Prevention of Defacement of Property Act for allegedly pasting election posters on public walls during the assembly campaign.

AAP had won two seats in the 2022 elections in the BJP-ruled state.

Inspector Halarankar said that AAP Goa chief Amit Palekar was called by the Pernem police at 11.30 am on Thursday, but he did not appear.

When contacted, Palekar claimed that he had not received any summons. “I am traveling abroad for five days from today. I will look into the matter after I come back.”
