Government College in Rasipuram cut trees in the campus without permission

Revenue department officials in Rasipuram on Monday found that 19 trees were cut in Thiruvalluvar Government Arts College without taking permission from the authorities concerned.

Spread over 25 acres, this college is covered with hundreds of trees.

The students allege that the college administration cut and sold over 50 trees over the weekend without taking permission from the departments concerned.

After the information, the officials of the Revenue and Forest Department visited the college and counted the trees that were cut.

Principal (in-charge) of the college S. Bangaru said that keeping in mind the safety of students snakes and poisonous insects enter classrooms and bathrooms, we have cleared bushes and cut some branches of trees which are covered by CCTV cameras and overhead electricity. cable.

Revenue officials said that a total of 8.1 tonnes of cut trees were sold for ₹9,120 and the amount was handed over to the parent-teacher association of the college. Reasons, like the safety of students, may be acceptable. But cutting of trees without proper permission is not acceptable.
