A 21-year-old groom died while the bride was in critical condition after they allegedly consumed poison following a quarrel during a wedding ceremony in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city, a police official said.

The incident happened on Tuesday.

The official said the groom was declared brought dead at the hospital, while the bride was hanging between life and death.

Speaking to reporters, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ramzan Khan said the groom consumed poison and informed his 20-year-old bride about it following an altercation during the wedding ceremony at an Arya Samaj temple in Kanadiya area.

He said, “As soon as the bride came to know that the groom had consumed poison, she also drank it. The doctors declared the young man brought dead, while the condition of the woman kept on life support system remains very critical.

According to him, the groom’s family members said that the woman had been pressurizing him for the marriage for the past several days and when he asked for a two-year deadline for marriage on the basis of his career, the woman lodged a police complaint against him. . ,

The incident is being probed, he said.
