GST rate hike is applicable from today, these goods will become expensive

Dahi, Lassi and Murmura will attract GST at the rate of 5 percent.

The recommendations of the Goods and Services Tax rates made during the 47th GST Council meeting held in June have come into effect from today.

The following is a list of items that will become costlier:

1. GST on paper knives, spoons, forks, ladles, skimmers, cake-servers has been increased from 12 per cent to 18 per cent.

2. GST on electric pumps such as centrifugal pumps, deep tubewell turbine pumps, submersible pumps, cycle pumps has been increased from 12 per cent to 18 per cent.

3. Pre-packaged and labeled pulses, and cereals like rice, wheat and atta (atta) will now attract 5 per cent GST when branded and packaged in a unit container.

4. GST at the rate of 5 per cent will be levied on pre-packaged and labeled curd, lassi and murmura.

5. GST on LED lamps, lights and fixtures, their metal printed circuit boards will also increase from 12 per cent to 18 per cent.

6. GST on solar water heaters and systems has been increased from 5 per cent to 12 per cent.

7. GST on cut and polished diamonds to be increased from 0.25% to 1.5%.

8. GST on e-waste to be increased from 5 per cent to 18 per cent.

9. GST on petroleum/coal bed methane to be increased from 5 per cent to 12 per cent.

10. Hotel accommodation up to Rs.1,000 per day will attract 12 per cent tax.

11. Room rent (excluding ICU) exceeding Rs.5,000 per patient per day by a hospital will be charged at an amount of 5 per cent for rooms without ITC.

Here are some goods and services where GST is deductible:

1. Tax on transport of goods and passengers by ropeway reduced from 18 percent to 5 percent.

2. Truck or freight fare where fuel cost is included will be cheaper as the tax has been reduced from 18 per cent to 12 per cent.

3. GST on ostomy instruments reduced from 12 per cent to 5 per cent.

4. GST on several orthopedic instruments reduced from 12 per cent to 5 per cent.
