Ahmedabad : Gujarat The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Thursday arrested an accused wanted in a 2006 ‘jihadi conspiracy case’ along with another person from the Union Territory of Jammu. Kashmira senior official said.
Gujarat Director General of Police Ashish Bhatia said that Bilal Ahmed Dar, who was absconding for 15 years after the 2006 blast at Kalupur railway station in Ahmedabad, was arrested by an ATS team from Baramulla district.
The ATS also arrested Hussain Ali Dar, a resident of Anantnag, who had allegedly sent 108 kg of charas to Gujarat before 2009 and was suspected of using the money for anti-India activities.
The DGP said that both the accused are being brought here.
In February 2006, an explosion at the Kalupur railway station, the main station in Ahmedabad, injured several people, although no one was killed. Bhatia said, “Investigation has revealed that two people of Kashmir, Aslam and Bashir, instigated some youths studying in madrassa in Bharuch by showing them videos of post-Godhra violence and using them to spread terror in the country as revenge. Subsequently, a separate case of conspiracy and sedition under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was registered against all the accused who were part of the conspiracy, Bhatia said.
“After meeting Aslam and Bashir, Bilal joined Lashkar-e-Taiba (Pakistan-based terror group). He then brainwashed 15 other Muslim youths and sent them to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan with the help of ISI So that they can be trained in shooting and making bombs,” the top police officer said.
He said that earlier nine people have been arrested in connection with this conspiracy.
The DGP said that Aslam is currently lodged in a jail in Jammu and Kashmir in another case, while Bashir was killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir in 2016.
Regarding the arrest of Hussain Ali Dar, an ATS release said that he had arrested one Shankar Prasad with 10 kg of charas in Gujarat in 2009.
Seven more people were arrested in this case. Some of them confessed that the main supplier, Hussain Ali Dar, had earlier sent 108 kg of charas to Gujarat.
It was suspected that he was using the smuggled money for anti-India activities, the release said.
