Jignesh Mevani, An independent MLA and a prominent Dalit activist were arrested by the Assam Police from Palanpur in Gujarat late on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Congress has posted a video on its Twitter handle in which Mr. Mevani is interacting with the media in Palanpur along with the police. “I have not been informed about the matter, where it has been filed. I have not been shown any documents related to the case.”
He said his arrest was in violation of established norms.
Mr. Mevani said that some senior ASP level officers from Assam had come to collect him. He told the media that his tweet was meant to promote communal harmony and brotherhood. He said that he would fight.
