HANSA-NG: India’s most advanced flying trainer completes sea-level trials

‘Hansa-ng’, which is India’s first indigenous flying trainerhas successfully completed sea-level trials at Puducherry from 19 February to 5 March. The flying trainer has been developed by CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories. NAL said the aircraft covered 140 nautical miles in 1.5 hours for Puducherry at a speed of 155 kilometers per hour.

The tests were conducted to evaluate handling properties, climb or cruise performance, bald landings, structural performance, power plant and other system performance at sea level. The flying trainer achieved all sea-level tests, following which the aircraft was flown to Bengaluru on March 5, completing an 18-hour journey from Puducherry.

The aircraft was piloted by Wing Commander KV Prakash and Wing Commander Dilip Reddy of the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE). The flight was supervised by NAL designers and Wing Commander Riju Chakraborty.

what is hansa-ng

One of the most advanced flight trainers, the Hansa-NG, is powered by a Rotax digital control engine. It has unique features like Just-In-Time Prepreg (JIPREG) composite lightweight airframe, glass cockpit, bubble canopy with wide panoramic view, electrically operated flaps etc.

The aircraft is designed to meet the needs of the Flying Club of India and is an ideal aircraft for Commercial Pilot Licensing (CPL) due to its low cost and low fuel consumption. NAL has already received more than 80 LOIs (Letters of Intent) from various Flying Clubs for the aircraft.

Hansa-NG has completed 37 flights and 50 hours of flying. It will operate a few more flights before getting the type certification by DGCA by April. After this its construction will be started with the public/private industry.
