Has Abhishek Banerjee officially become the ‘Crown Prince’ of TMC?

Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) is changing. It will have a ‘new’ avatar in six months, the party claims in its recent posters. At several places across Kolkata, posters have been put up – announcing that “a new and reformed TMC will come into existence in six months”.

Interestingly, this may be the first time in the history of TMC that the posters do not feature Didi’s face. Instead, photographs of General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee have been used.

The Hazra and Kalighat neighborhoods in south Kolkata, both close to the TMC supremo’s house in Bhawanipore, were where posters were prominently displayed. However, none of the posters had a picture of Mamata Banerjee, a seldom feature of TMC posters since the party’s inception in 1998.

The BJP claimed that the posters show that people no longer trust Mamata Banerjee. According to the party, the TMC government is trying to divert attention from its corrupt activities.

West Bengal BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said, “Some posters surfaced that a new face is coming in TMC. Does this mean that people no longer trust Mamata Banerjee and TMC needs a new face? Needed? People are against TMC’s loot. Party days are numbered.”

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “Some people are uncomfortable with the pictures showing mountains of cash at many places in the state. So it was done (posters put up) to change the truth, but the people of Bengal are aware of it. The truth is. “

Most of the party leaders remained silent about the situation, though Kunal Ghosh, a close friend of Abhishek Banerjee and state general secretary of TMC, insisted that the posters were fine.

Ghosh said, “From time to time, Abhishek Banerjee has said that we need to learn and improve ourselves. We need to fulfill the aspirations of the people. So it may be that some overzealous party workers have done so in the past. Put up posters with their quotes released.” ,

According to TMC vice-president Joy Prakash Majumdar, there is no question of Mamata Banerjee being the last leader of the party.

“Mamata Banerjee gave birth to TMC. She is the supreme leader and there is no doubt about it. Abhishek Banerjee has repeatedly reiterated that Mamata Banerjee is our only leader. Maybe the posters were put up by some over-enthusiastic worker Yes,” Mazumdar told ANI.
