Heartbreaking video shows rescue of dwarf minke whale stranded on beach in Australia

Dwarf minke whale washed up at Hervey Bay beach in Australia.

A group of beach goers recently rescued a stranded dwarf minke whale that was washed away on the beach Australia, according to this newsweekThe Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service arrived at Hervey Bay Beach on 20 May and found the minke whale was washed out and unable to move. After a preliminary assessment, wildlife officials determined that the whale appeared to be in “good condition,” after which beachgoers, along with officials, directed the mammal back into deeper water.

A video taken by snake catcher Drew Godfrey shows rescuers pouring water to keep the animal wet. Rescuers can also be seen carrying the whales towards the sea with the rising tide.

In the clip, one can see that once the whale is successfully guided into deep water, it suddenly starts banging its tail, attempting to swim in deeper water. As the whales become more alive, spectators can be heard cheering.

The marine mammal appears to disappear into the depths, however, moments later the whale is once again trapped in the shallows. “Oh no, it’s coming back,” a person in the video can be heard saying. But once the whale is trapped in shallow water and stops hopping around in the water, rescuers try to get it back into the depths.

Rescuers pull the whale out and it starts flapping its tail to swim once again. Beach goers can be heard cheering again in the clip as it becomes clear that the whale is finally heading back into the open ocean.

talking to newsweekDrew Godfrey said the moment was “very shaking”. “It was a heartwarming moment of community spirit and animal rescue. It was wonderful to watch,” said Mr. Godfrey.

Meanwhile, it is to be mentioned that dwarf minke whales can be found in temperate and warm waters in the Southern Hemisphere.
