Heatwave: Delhi-NCR schools revise timings, restrict outdoor activities

Concerned about the health of children due to the scorching heat across the country, schools in Delhi-NCR are not only restricting time, outdoor activities and stocking up on ORS and glucose pouches, but are also motivating children to stay hydrated. Huh.

Earlier, the parents here have urged the Delhi government to revise either School Time or advance of summer vacation. Although many schools had announced a reduction in outdoor activities, parents claimed that it was not possible for students to have school hours. Excessive heat.

The Haryana government had announced last Monday that due to the scorching heat across the state, the timings of all schools – government and private – would be from 7 am to 12 noon for classes 1 to 12 from May 4. However, no such measure was announced in Delhi.

A scorching heat had engulfed large areas of India with the temperature rising to 46 degrees Celsius in the national capital. Delhi also recorded its second warmest April in 72 years, with a monthly average maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said earlier this week that a fresh round of heatwave is likely to start over northwest India from May 7 and over central India from May 8.

The Center last week also urged states and union territories to review their healthcare facilities for availability of medicines and equipment in sufficient quantities, while ensuring adequate drinking water and functioning of cooling equipment in critical areas.

The center also advised people to avoid being out in the sun, especially between 12 noon and 3 p.m., avoid strenuous activities when out in the afternoon, and drink alcohol, tea, coffee, or drinks with large amounts of sugar. Avoid prescribing it may cause loss of excess body fluid or cause abdominal cramps.

The center has also advised people to avoid high protein food and rancid food and not leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
