In October last year, Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson announced a partnership for the Indian market. As per the licensing agreement, Hero MotoCorp has taken over the exclusive distribution rights of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, parts and merchandise in India after the reputed American motorcycle manufacturer withdrew from the Indian market.
Earlier this year, Hero MotoCorp started the booking process for 13 Harley-Davidson models, priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom).
Around 100 Harley-Davidson bikes, which constitute the first batch handed over to the Indian market this year, are fully pre-booked.
Earlier this month, Hero MotoCorp opened bookings for the next batch of Harley-Davidson adventure tourer bike ‘Pan America’ 1250.
Hero MotoCorp expects the tie-up with Harley-Davidson to help it accelerate its presence in the premium bike segment, where it aims to establish a complete portfolio across segments and across engine capacities.
The company, which is a leader in the budget bike segment (100-110cc), is in the process of developing electric two-wheelers for both the large and premium segments.

The company was also positive about the festive season sales on the back of a good monsoon and other related factors.
“Going forward, looking at the size of the monsoon, given the size of the economic revival, we expect a positive trend which has already started to emerge, picking up through the festivities (period), and After that a big bounce back is expected. The second half of this fiscal. It is about medium and short term,” Gupta said.
He said that as far as the long-term is concerned, opportunities remain for the two-wheeler sector.
“We are very confident for the two-wheeler sector, as the underlying factors of lower penetration, more women in education and employment, more financing opportunities and more organisations, all remain intact and on top of that, there will be more personal mobility as a factor. Play slowly now,” said Gupta.
Semiconductor shortages affecting the industry have also had no impact on the company. “So we are well building towards a good festival and our list is heading towards that,” Gupta said.
