Home guards rendering meritorious service in Visakhapatnam, says DCP

Home Guards Foundation Day was organized by the city police at AR Ground on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) G. Naganna attended the program as the chief guest and unfurled the Home Guards Raising Day flag and took the salute from him.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naganna said that there are 1,058 home guards working with the city police. In total, 875 Home Guards are involved in general duties like law and order, crime, traffic, sub control and few others. 183 Home Guards like Steel Plant, Gangavaram Port, Simhachalam Devasthanam, Naval Base, All India Radio, Doordarshan, Coastal Security (Marine), CBCID, Special Branch, Women and Child Welfare Department, Central are working on deputation. Warehousing Corporation and others.

He said that the allowances of the home guards would be shared by the state and the central government.

He said that the government is providing benefits to the home guards which include Dr YSR Arogya Shree, PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, medical reimbursement, financial assistance of Rs 5,000 during daughter’s marriage and few others.

The DCP said that more than 40% of Visakhapatnam’s home guards are graduates, post-graduates, computer operators, drivers, diesel mechanics, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, cooks and gardeners.

He said that the Home Guards working with the city police were rendering their services commendably and those performing well in solving crime cases were being rewarded. Vizag Police is providing merit scholarship to the children of HG for higher education and financial assistance to them for the marriage of their daughter.

DCP (Law & Order-II) Anand Reddy, ADCP (Admin) MRK Raju and senior police officers were present.

Anakapalle District Police has also organized Home Guard Raising Day at the District Police Office.

The SP said that apart from them, 137 are working in PSUs and Central/State Government offices.

The police department is ensuring that the family of Martyr HG gets all the benefits and one member of his family gets a job.

60 th Home Guard Raising Day was celebrated at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Tuesday.

Chief General Manager (HR)-Corporate Services, RINL, G. Gandhi and Commandant, CISF, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, A. Mohammad Hanif jointly hoisted the flag for the day.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Gandhi appreciated the efforts of the Home Guards in ensuring the safety of the residents and the safety of the properties of RINL, Ukkunagaram Township.

Shri Gandhi presented a memento to T. Ananth Rao, who was adjudged the Best Home Guard for the year 2022.

The dignitaries presented mementos to the best performing Home Guards and gave away prizes to the winners of various games and sports competitions.
