A recent Twitter thread revealed an exciting trivia about the film – how the idea of using SRK’s popularity to get Australians excited for an Indian film came together in a huge hockey stadium.
It all started when the team advertised its Shahrukh Khan Will be present at Sydney’s Olympic Hockey Stadium. To his delight, a large crowd turned up, far exceeding his expectations. Director Shimit Amin had anticipated that the crowd would appear for one or two days of filming, but to his surprise, they appeared on all five days of the shoot!

So the team advertised that Shah Rukh is going to be at the Olympic Hockey Stadium in Sydney. As expected, a large number of people turned up. During the shoot, Shah Rukh performed several times on the ground to keep the audience engaged. The crowd would cheer him whenever he waved and shook hands, and the director used these moments to capture the reactions of the ‘reel crowd’ in the film. As the director himself revealed in 2017, “The minute the audience gets restless, we will bring him out and shoot on his back so that the background is huge and we get an organic crowd reaction. He would wave, start acting and people would start clapping. At one point, we made him sit in a buggy and let him go around the stadium. He would wave, people would wave back and what we did was capture the reaction. We used his personality and he was great about it.”
It seems like every day brings a new example of Shah Rukh Khan’s undeniable power over people, reminding us all why he is the ‘last of the kings’ in Bollywood.
