Hyundai Motor Company and Unity, the world’s leading platform for creating and operating real-time 3D (RT3D) content, have announced a partnership to jointly design and build a new Metaverse roadmap and platform for Meta-Factory . The announcement was made at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022, where the two companies organized a virtual Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony in the presence of Hong Bum Jung, Senior Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer, Hyundai Motor Group. The MoU pertains to the fields of smart manufacturing, AI training and study as well as autonomous driving simulation. This partnership will enable Hyundai’s vision of becoming the first mobility innovator to build a Meta-Factory concept, a digital-twin of a real factory that will be supported by the Metaverse platform. The introduction of the Meta-Factory will allow Hyundai to virtually test-run a factory to calculate optimized plant operations, and will enable plant managers to resolve problems without physically visiting the plant.

The two companies will also jointly develop a real-time 3D and virtual platform that will reach a broader set of Hyundai customers and offer them a more comprehensive range of services in sales, marketing and customer experience. This arrangement will allow customers to digitally test and engage various auto related solutions, before choosing to shift to the original vehicles. Hyundai plans to apply the meta-factory concept to the first HMGICS facility, supporting the group’s initiative to create an open innovation center for research and development. At HMGICS, Hyundai and Unity’s partnership will further accelerate innovation in intelligent manufacturing, integrating AI, 5G and other advanced technologies into the next generation smart factory platform.
