IIT-BU develops 15 hours MOOC on Essential Life Skills. Varanasi News – Times of India

Varanasi: In a strategic move to enhance life skills competence among students, researchers, faculty and industry personnel, Indian Institute of Technology – Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi has recently developed a 15-hour program. Mute On ‘Essential Life Skills’ in collaboration with Commonwealth Educational Media Center for Asia (Massive Open Online Course)CEMCA), an important center set up by the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL) to meet the learning needs expressed by Asian countries.
Professor Pramod Kumar Jain, Director, IIT (BHU) said that life skills are adaptive and positive behavior among learners. He said that life skills have been identified by UNICEF and WHO as skills that help a person to be successful in leading a productive and satisfying life.
Prof Jain said that the MOOC on ‘Essential Life Skills’ will help in developing professional competence and promoting psychological well-being among the participants. He said that CEMCA (COL) will soon open this course to participants from about fifteen countries in the Asian region including India. He said that IIT (BHU) Varanasi will continue to partner with leading agencies to develop materials to contribute to nation building through capacity building.
According to him, the entire MOOC is designed and developed by Dr. Ajit Kumar Mishra Produced in the Department of Humanistic Studies and at the Institute’s Teaching Learning Center (TLC). The National Policy on Education (2020) has also identified a growing awareness of the rapidly changing social, economic and political framework.
Dr Mishra said that realizing this need for permanent upskilling, IIT (BHU) and CEMCA (CoL) have joined hands to come forward with MOOC which is designed to train participants in psychosocial and interpersonal skills in an experiential setting. designed to achieve the desired growth. He said that communication skills are the most sought after skills in the world today, similarly, good writing skills will enable people to reach out to the world in an authentic and credible way and the module on relationship skills will train the participants in interpersonal skills.
