Varanasi: The trend of more than 5 lakh Kanwariyas and pilgrims to visit Kashi Vishwanath Dham The last ‘Monday’ set on the first Monday of Shravan month also continued.
On the eve of the last Monday of Shravan, more than 2.50 lakh devotees visited the Kashi Vishwanath temple on Sunday. However, since the crowd was split over two days, the authorities did not face problems in controlling the crowd, especially during the early morning hours of the previous Monday.
“Unlike the last three Monday Shravans, last Monday there was not much rush in the morning hours. From the opening of the sanctum sanctorum on the last three Mondays till noon, the forces deployed to control the crowd had to struggle hard to control the enthusiastic devotees, especially the Kanwariyas. The crowd was manageable but the queues remained till late evening,” said the police commissioner One Satish Ganesh After setting up camp near KV Dham to oversee the crowd control exercise.
The city witnessed a huge influx of Kanwariyas and pilgrims from Saturday. On the other hand, long queues of devotees can be seen on the streets of the city to enter the KV temple on Sunday. Additional CP Santosh Kumar Singh said that till Sunday night, the number of devotees coming to KV Dham for offerings Jalabhishek Lord Vishwanath had crossed the 2.50 lakh mark. However, compared to the last three Mondays, the number of Kanwariyas reaching the city was less.
While there was no rush of devotees to enter KV Dham in the early morning hours, around 40,000 people entered the temple every hour. As per police records, the number of devotees entering KV Dham by 2 pm had crossed 3.85 lakh, while the length of queues was evident in the areas around KV Dham till late evening.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the KV temple saw a maximum crowd of around 2.50 lakh on Mondays of the month of Shravan. mahashivratri, But, after the opening of KV Dham, not only the average crowd of devotees daily increased manifold but new records were also created. About 5.50 lakh devotees entered KV Dham to perform Jalabhishek on the first Monday of Shravan on 18th July. This record was broken on the second Monday with a gathering of 6.03 lakh devotees. On the third Monday also, the number of devotees was above five lakhs.
Other temples such as the Markandeya Mahadev Temple and other temples at the Ganga-Gomti confluence in the Kaithi region thronged with devotees, especially locals. Mrityunjay MahadeviKriti Vishweshwar, Onkleshwar, Tilbhandeshwar, Kedareshwar, Vishwanath Temple of BHU and Sarangnath.
