Indian Institute technology (IIT), Hyderabad has launched the country’s first Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) program in Computational Engineering. Tech Computational Engineering will undergo interdisciplinary training that will help them gain knowledge in high-performance computing, modeling and simulation of engineering systems and processes. They will also learn about state-of-the-art numerical methods and algorithms, process control and optimization, data analytics, and machine learning.

IIT Hyderabad: Eligibility Criteria

The admission process in B.Tech Computational Engineering will be done on the basis of IIT-JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) advanced scores. It is similar to all other B.Tech programs of IIT Hyderabad. Candidates applying for B.Tech in Computational Engineering must have passed class 12th or its equivalent from a recognized state or central board.

IIT Hyderabad: Course Fee

Students falling under General, Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) categories will have to pay Rs 1 lakh per semester, except for the B.Tech 2022 batch.

SC/ST or PH category candidates are fully exempted from tuition fee. Apart from these charges, there are other additional charges which are added to the tuition fee including welfare fund, mess and hostel charges. It is to be noted that there is no exemption on these additional fees for the students falling under SC/ ST or PH category.

IIT Hyderabad: Course Structure

B.Tech course in Computational Engineering is a four year interdisciplinary undergraduate (UG) program equally divided into eight semesters of six months each.

During the first five semesters, students will be taught and trained in numerical techniques, computer simulation, optimization, mathematical methods, mathematical model development, and high-performance computing. In the last three concluding semesters, candidates will have the option to choose from various electives. This will help them learn more specific about the topic.

Electives will cover a range of topics such as advanced manufacturing, materials design, structural design, process engineering, chip design and biomedical engineering.

IIT Hyderabad: Career Scope

There are various career possibilities in this particular program. After completing their studies in this course, candidates can choose to have experience in numerical algorithms and methods, a strong foundation in scientific computing, proficiency in computing tools and techniques, systems design and simulation, and automation of machines through cyber Readiness for Industry 4.0- Physical Systems and AI (Artificial Intelligence).
