IIT Nagpur introduces 4 new BTech courses, adds more seats

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Nagpur has increased 264 seats for its B.Tech course from the academic session 2022-23. In addition, four new branches of engineering have been started by the institute. These branches include Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Human-Computer Interaction and Gaming Technology, Data Science and Analytics and Internet of Things.

The branches of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Human-Computer Interaction and Gaming Technology, Data Science and Analytics will run under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, while the Internet of Things will be under the Department of Electronics and Communication, as reported by TOI. Dean Ashwin Kothari said that he had 373 seats in BTech first year in 2021, but now the number has increased to 637.

Last year, IIIT Nagpur had 214 seats in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, which has now increased to 421, and 133 seats in the Department of Electronics and Communications, which has now increased to 216.

Talking to the students, Kothari says that students from Nagpur and other cities of the region can take advantage of the golden opportunity and learn the popular courses available in select colleges. “We are getting major companies for our placements, and they are giving good salary packages to the students. Our students are also getting internship offers from reputed organizations. Our faculty recruitment drive is in full swing,” he insisted.

The premier institute started functioning in 2016-17 at BSNL Regional Telecom Training Center at Seminary Hills. In April 2021, it shifted to the permanent campus. IIIT Nagpur intends to set up its own IT park in the coming two years, where software companies can operate their units. This will be the first of all IIITs to provide such facility to students to do internships in software units. The institute further intends to build an international class community center there.
