India to see 400 million air passengers in 7-10 years: Aviation Minister

About 200 million air passengers, domestic and international, were pre-pandemic.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday said that a total of 400 million air passengers are expected to arrive in India in the next 7 to 10 years.

He also said that there are tremendous growth opportunities for domestic airlines and they are expected to have a fleet of 1,200 aircraft in five years.

The minister said there were around 200 million air passengers, including domestic and international passengers, pre-pandemic and the number is expected to double to 400 million in the next 7 to 10 years.

Speaking at a conference organized by industry body ASSOCHAM, Mr Scindia said that the country is estimated to have 220 airports including heliports and aerodromes by 2026.

The civil aviation sector of the country is on the path of recovery after being hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
