Australia is undoubtedly the dominant force in women’s cricket and defeating them is not going to be an easy task for the Indian team. However, in the tournament opener, India gave a tough fight to Meg Lanning’s team and they can work on the mistakes they made in that struggle to improve their show tonight.

Harmanpreet said that her teammates kept fighting till the desired result was achieved. India were able to defend 164, restricting the Nat Sciver-led England to 160/6 to seal a narrow victory.

“Till the last moment, we believed we could win, even if they had some strong partnerships,” Harmanpreet said after the historic win.
“Even when they were doing well, no one gave up. We have been working on this for some time. If you keep doing this then some results will definitely come and I am glad that it is visible now.

In a tough encounter that went on till the last over, India kept their spirits up and managed to defend 14 runs in the final over and booked a berth in their struggle for the gold medal.

“It was an important match. It’s nice that everyone played their part with bat, ball and on the field. It’s important that they all stay together in such matches. Looking at the last over, our fast fielders fielded in the deep. Took responsibility. It shows how eager you are to do well for the team,” said Harmanpreet.
