Indian-American businessman, 32, killed in New York house fire

In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old Indian-American entrepreneur and his dog died after a fire broke out inside his Dix Hills cottage in New York’s Long Island. The incident is of 14 December.

According to news agency PTI, Tanya Bathija died on the spot. The flames were so strong that the police officers could not enter the house.

Patrol officers responded to a call at 2:53 p.m. Meanwhile, the Suffolk County Police Department has denied any criminal conspiracy in the case. “Tanya Bathija lived in the cottage behind her parents’ house on the Carls Strait Path,” Suffolk Police Department’s Lt. Kevin Bearer, chief of the department’s homicide squad, was quoted as saying.

Ms. Bathija recently opened a Dunkin’ Donuts outlet in Bellport, Long Island. He ventured into this field after completing his MBA in Accounting and Finance.

Police said Ms Bathija’s father, Gobind Bathija, who was up for his morning exercise, saw the fire and immediately dialed 911. Mr. Bathija is a businessman and a community leader.

The department said, “Mr. Bathija alerted his wife as soon as she called 911. They ran outside to the cottage and tried to get her out, but she was completely surrounded.”

According to the local daily, newsdayThe patrol officer and a sergeant, who tried to enter Ms Bathija’s cottage but were “repelled by the fire”, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for smoke inhalation.

A spokesman for the Dix Hills Fire Department said that more than 60 firefighters and rescue personnel were deployed to “aggressively attack the fire.”

The report added that the last rites of Tanya Bathija will be performed at Maloney’s Lake Funeral Home and Lake Ronkonkoma Crematorium.
