It has been raining heavily in Mumbai for the past few weeks. Thousands of commuters struggle everyday to reach their workplace as local train services get delayed during heavy rains and sometimes due to maintenance work on the tracks. but not anymore! To save time and avoid delay, Central Railway introduced GPS tagging to track the real time location of Mumbai local trains. Rail passengers will now be able to track the live location of their Mumbai local through the Yatri app.
However, for now, this facility is available only for trains running under Central Railway as it has completed GPS tagging on all its locomotives.
GPS devices are installed within the rake and the Yatri app will send the real-time location of their trains to various devices. The data gets refreshed after every 15 seconds, if not, users can refresh the app and see a train icon on the rail map showing the live location of the train. This facility will be available exclusively on the Belapur-Kharkopar route for some initial days.
Currently, Mumbai locals are tracked through the m-indicator app, but now Indian Railways is hoping to raise the bar in providing digital services to commuters for more convenient travel. Having said that, users of the app will also be able to suggest new features and enter their suggestions on the app. Around 4.5 lakh passengers have already downloaded the app.
