IndiGo orders 500 facelifts, CEO Albers says, “Internationalisation a big part of our agenda”

Vinay Malhotra, Head of International Sales, said IndiGo has partnered with Turkish Airlines to expand its reach to Europe and has given around 500 more different numbers as part of its expansion plan. According to airline officials, IndiGo has given orders to both European giant Airbus and US Boeing.

Speaking to Annie, Malhotra said the airline currently deals with 1,800 potential flights a day and 10 per cent of them are globally. Indigo has a fleet of over 300 aircraft and currently serves 76 domestic and 26 international destinations. Recently agreements have also been announced for two more domestic destinations – Nashik and Dharamshala.

He said that the Indian aviation market is very vibrant and dynamic and it is improving with great gusto. IndiGo CEO Peter Albers said IndiGo has taken a leap and India’s economic progress is helping it to grow further.

The airline operates approximately 1,800 daily operations and currently approximately 80 percent of its selected category is domestic and 20 percent international. “We will launch new possibilities for Nairobi (Kenya) and Jakarta (Indonesia) in the coming summer. We are also looking at some targets in Central Asia, but it is yet to be finalised. Internationalization is a big part of our agenda. ”He said that Nairobi and Jakarta are important for tourism, trade and connecting people of Indian origin.
