INS Vikrant, “City on the Move”: 18 floors, 1,600 crew, 16-bed hospital

The hangar of INS Vikrant is as big as two Olympic-sized pools.

INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier, to be commissioned today, is set to augment the country’s naval power. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the warship has been called a “moving city”.

INS Vikrant was reduced to 5 numbers

  1. 262 meters: The largest warship to be built in India, INS Vikrant is 262 meters long and 62 meters wide. This will be the country’s second aircraft carrier after INS Vikramaditya, which was built on a Russian platform.

  2. 2 football fields: To make it easier to figure out its size, the battleship is two football fields end to end and 18 floors tall, the Navy said in a video.

  3. 2 Olympic Pools: The aircraft carrier’s hangar is as large as two Olympic-sized pools. Initially, the warship will carry MiG fighter jets and a few helicopters. After getting the command of the warship, the Navy will conduct aviation tests.

  4. 1,600 crew: INS Vikrant can accommodate 1600 crew members and 30 aircraft on board. It is equipped with machines that can make 3,000 chapatis in an hour.

  5. 16 bedded hospital The warship, which took more than a decade to build, is equipped with a 16-bed hospital, 250 fuel tankers and 2,400 coaches.
