A Spanish professional footballer, Mongil, returned to the ISL in 2021 but could not fulfill his dream for Blasters and instead joined Odisha FC.

The centre-back had a decent season with the Juggernauts which paved the way for his dream chase in Kochi ahead of the 2022-23 season.

“I have been fortunate to play for some of the top clubs in ATK FC and Odisha FC, but for me, this move was the best as Kerala Blasters FC, is the biggest club for me. India Because of their support and love of fans,” Mongil said on Kerala Blasters FC’s Instagram page.

“I was waiting for this (a chance to play for Kerala Blasters FC) for three years, but now it is a reality. I am very excited for this new chapter and I can’t wait to play my first match in front of my fans in Kochi.

Mangil has played 28 matches in his two stints in the ISL and his passing accuracy during these matches is 80.78 per cent. Thus he would directly join head coach Ivan Vukomanovic’s technical style of play and thus improve the team.

“I love this project because Kerala Blasters FC has always wanted to fight for the top spot and every player wants to be a part of such big projects,” he added.

“Last season was great but we want to continue that way. The new season gives us another chance to play in the finals. So we want to keep fighting till we reach another final,” Mongil said.

Having the experience of playing in the second and third tiers of Spanish football, Mangil will bring a lot of experience to the table which will certainly help the youngsters who are a big part of the core of the team.

The Spaniard wants to be a guide for these young players.

He said, ‘I want to help the young players in every possible way. Not only on the pitch but also off the pitch. In football, you can fly high or you can be down. In my experience in India, I want to help these young players when it comes to their skills, diet and everything. I think it is important for them to be professional because if they do then we have a bigger chance of winning the trophy,” he said.
