Caught driving under the influence of alcohol in Punjab? Give lecture in school, give Rs 5,000

Punjab State Transport Department has issued new traffic rules for safe driving under the newly elected AAP government led by CM Bhagwant Mann. As per the new rules, people caught under the influence of alcohol in Punjab will have to deliver lectures to school students and do community service in a hospital or donate blood besides paying a fine. In a notification, the department said, “Violators of traffic rules will have to take a refresher course by the transport authority and thereafter at least 20 students of classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 will be sent to a nearby school for at least two hours.” Gotta teach.”

After delivering the lecture, the offender will be issued a certificate by the nodal officer. At the time of compounding the offence, the officer concerned will examine the certificate issued to the offender. “The offender shall participate in community service for at least two hours in the nearest hospital or donate at least one unit of blood in the nearest blood bank as per the recommendation of the doctor-in-charge,” the order said.

According to the order, in case of over speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, a person “shall undergo community service as may be specified by the competent authority”.

Jumping a red light will attract a fine of Rs 1,000 for the first offense and Rs 2,000 for a repeat offence. It states that using a mobile phone while driving will attract a payment of Rs 5,000 for the first offense and Rs 10,000 for the subsequent offence.

More than 2 people on two wheeler

Riding a two-wheeler with more than two persons will attract a fine of Rs 1,000 for the first offense and Rs 2,000 for the subsequent offence. Overloading of goods will attract a fine of Rs 20,000 and Rs 2,000 per tonne for additional load and Rs 40,000 and Rs 2,000 per tonne for repeat offences. The notification said that in all these traffic violations the license would be suspended for three months.
