Jaishankar, Brazilian counterpart hold talks on enhancing cooperation in BRICS, IBSA, G20 blocs

Cape Town [South Africa]June 3 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira and discussed furthering India-Brazil cooperation in the framework of BRICS, IBSA, G20 and the United Nations.

The two ministers held talks on the sidelines of the BRICS meeting in Cape Town.

Jaishankar also said that he hoped that India and Brazil would work together to further deepen their strategic partnership.

After the meeting, Jaishankar tweeted, “Nice to meet Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on the sidelines of the BRICS meeting.” Discussed taking forward our cooperation in the framework of BRICS, IBSA, G20 and the United Nations. Look forward to working together to deepen our strategic partnership.”

Prior to this meeting, Jaishankar had also met Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirbadullahian on the sidelines of the BRICS conference.

Jaishankar and his Iranian counterpart reviewed bilateral ties between the two countries and discussed ways to further strengthen them, with a special focus on the Chabahar port.

After their meeting, Jaishankar posted on Twitter, “A good meeting with FM @Amirabdolahian of Iran on the sidelines of the Friends of BRICS gathering. Reviewed our bilateral relations and discussed ways to further strengthen them with special emphasis on Chabahar Port. Also exchanged views on BRICS and SCO.

Earlier in the day, the External Affairs Minister met his UAE counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the ‘Friends of BRICS’ gathering.

Jaishankar tweeted, “Delighted to meet UAE Foreign Minister HH @ABZayed on the sidelines of the Friends of BRICS gathering. Our regular meetings and constant interactions are helpful in taking our strategic partnership forward. May you always benefit from his insight and perspective on global politics.”

EAM also addressed the Friends of BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting in Cape Town.

“BRICS is no longer an ‘option’, it is an established feature of the global landscape,” the External Affairs Minister tweeted on Friday.

“The message of reform symbolized by BRICS must pervade the world of multilateralism. BRICS friends strongly support UNSC reform.

The External Affairs Minister said that BRICS is not only an expression of multi-polarity but also represents many diverse ways of addressing international challenges.

“BRICS is focused on building a fair, inclusive and open international architecture with sustainable development,” Jaishankar tweeted.

“Creating resilient and reliable supply chains is key to ensuring that no one is left behind. Thank you to all BRICS members and friends for the open and constructive exchange of viewpoints,” Jaishankar posted.

South Africa, the bloc’s current chair, hosted the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Conference in Cape Town. (ANI)
