Jamia pays heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 153rd birth anniversary – Times of India

New Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized several programs today i.e. on 02 October 2022 to celebrate the 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. substitute Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohd Shakeel Book exhibition opening Mahatma Gandhi In the Dr. Zakir Hussain Library of the University. Some personal letters, papers and other archival material of Mahatma Gandhi kept by the library are also displayed in the exhibition to create more awareness and knowledge about him.
Pro. Shakeel presided over the main function Dr. Zakir Hussain Library Which included lectures on Mahatma Gandhi by Professor Farhat Nasreen, Kavita Path by a student of Hindi Department, group songs by students of Faculty of Education, speech by a student of Social Work Department and other cultural programs. Jamia Registrar Prof. Nazim Hussain Jafri, Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Prof. Senior officials including Ibrahim, University Librarian Dr. Tariq Ashraf and several teaching and non-teaching staff of the University participated.
The function was inaugurated by the Registrar of Jamia, Prof. Nazim Hussain Jaffrey followed by DSW Prof. Abraham made an introductory remark.
Pro. Farhat Nasreen, Head, Department of History, Jamia delivered a lecture on ‘Mysticism and Mahatma Gandhi’. He argued that Mahatmas are firmly in the ranks of mystics and visionaries who devote their lives to the good of others. He took inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography to outline the values ​​of humanity and humanism for which he stood. It was noted that Gandhiji had always preached that we should be proud of our nation and its priceless culture of non-violence and truth.
A bibliography containing more than 1500 books on Mahatma Gandhi prepared by Dr. Zakir Hussain Library was also released by OFG. Vice-Chancellor and other guests on the occasion.
The program ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Tariq Ashraf, Librarian of the University and finally the national anthem was sung by the gathering.
Several other programs were also organized today and yesterday at the department level to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. The Department of Sociology, Jamia organized an online lecture on “Sustainable Development Goals and Gandhian Path” by Professor Anand Kumar (Eminent Sociologist and Retired Professor, CSSS/SSS, Jawaharlal Nehru University) on 1 October 2022. The Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and the importance of the Gandhian approach in achieving the same. He discussed the social aspects in contemporary society that would benefit from Gandhi’s vision of social, economic and ecological justice. He further talked about the idea of ​​responsibility and what it means in terms of health, education, consumption, production and international cooperation.
Musheer Fatma Nursery School, Jamia celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with enthusiasm and fervor in the school premises. Many programs were organized by the little ones to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation.
