Senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy on Sunday accused BJP leaders of influencing officials after his daughter Soumya was “preliminarily declared the winner” of the seat by the Election Commission of India.

Karnataka The Jayanagar assembly seat saw a close contest between BJP candidate CK Ramamurthy and Congress rival Sowmya Reddy, with Ramamurthy winning by a narrow margin of just 16 votes. The tense situation further escalated with clashes between supporters of both the sides and security forces during several rounds of counting, leading to heavy deployment of security personnel in the area.

Senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy on Sunday accused BJP leaders of influencing officials after his daughter Soumya was declared the “presumptive winner” of the seat by the Election Commission of India.

“The results were announced late Saturday night by officials at the counting center at SSMRV College in Jayanagar,” a state information department official said in a statement.
