How Jharkhand became a separate state?

It was on 15 November 2000 when the Chotanagpur region was separated from the southern part of Bihar to give birth to another state called Jharkhand. By doing so, the latter became the 28th Indian state.

At present, the Chotanagpur plateau and the forests of the Santhal Pargana form Jharkhand. The tribals of this state had long ago demanded a separate state for themselves because after independence the tribal people got very little socio-economic benefits.
