The new sanction, announced by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), appeals to the court, dashing Juventus’ hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Juventus were handed a 10-point deduction in Serie A on Monday after revising an initial 15-point penalty imposed on the club over illegal transfer activity.

The new sanction, announced by the appeals court of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), dashes Juventus’ hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, leaving them outside the top four with three games to go this season.

In April, Italy’s highest sports court, the Sports Guarantee Board, nullified Juve’s 15-point penalty imposed by the FIGC’s appeals court and referred the case for a new decision.

It asked the appeals court to modify the sentence handed down to the club and some key figures, including former vice-president Pavel Nedved.

Juventus said they “reserve the right” to appeal the latest decision of the Sports Guarantee Board.

The Turin giants said on Twitter: “While not ignoring the need for urgency, which Juventus has never overcome during the proceedings, it is emphasized that these are facts that are still to be assessed by a judge.” Have to go.”

In April, long bans on ex-chairman Andrea Agnelli, ex-CEO Maurizio Arrivabene and sporting directors Federico Cherubini and Fabio Paratici were upheld.

But Juventus’ hopes that the points deduction would be completely overturned were dashed on Monday.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men, who were second in the top flight, dropped to seventh in the table.

Juve are now five points behind fourth-placed AC Milan ahead of their game at Empoli on Monday.

The ‘Old Lady’ hosts Champions League semi-finalists Milan in their last match of the campaign this weekend.

Juve will visit Udinese in their final match of the season on 4 June.

The FIGC’s decision also means that Lazio, who beat Juve in second place, will qualify for the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2020 and only the second time since 2007 if Juventus fail to beat Empoli.

Inter Milan, who have moved up to third, Atalanta and Roma have all jumped one place in the Serie A standings.

Juventus are also embroiled in criminal proceedings over their accounting practices with 12 current and former key club figures, with Agnelli potentially facing trial.

According to Italian news agencies, a High Court hearing on October 26 will decide whether a final hearing will take place in Turin, where the investigation has taken place, or in Milan or Rome.
