Karnataka village children walk to school on horseback, aimed at increasing footfall post Covid-19

School going children are still getting used to the post-pandemic world. Things could have been better with the older kids having exams and regular classes. But the little ones are still in the mood to stay at home comfortably. Bringing them back to school on time is a tough task for the parents.

But, in Kandhahalli village of Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, it is not such a difficult task. For all those kids on earth who look for every reason to miss school, there’s a catch. What about riding a horse to school? Wow, you might say… but it’s possible and there’s a lot going on here!

When a child from this village starts creating ruckus or does not want to go to school, the parents call Nagendra alias Kudure Nagendra. He is offered to go back to school on a horse.

Hourly owner Nagendra, 42, is offering the service free of charge to help children get used to school and daily routines. “We elders have struggled and suffered a lot due to Covid and it is getting difficult to get back to normal. After all, these are children. I’m just trying to help them. Once they get used to going to school and attending classes regularly, they are on their own. Kids are good company, in fact,” Nagendra told News18.com

Apparently, Nagendra is an animal lover and bought this horse from Mysore eight years ago. He also has dogs, ducks, pigeons, rabbits, parrots, love birds, sheep and goats on his farm. He trades coconut for his livelihood. Kudure Nagendra (horse Nagendra) riding his horse can be seen working in the nearby villages.

Nagendra, 42, is a savior to many parents whose children throw tantrums to go to school. Teachers say these children sit attentively even in the classroom because they know a horse ride is waiting for them to leave their house.
