KCR’s daughter named in Delhi liquor policy case by probe agency

Kavitha, daughter of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Telangana MLA, was on Wednesday named by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a court filing on its probe into the now-cancelled Delhi Liquor Policy.

Citing the statements of Amit Arora, an arrested Gurugram-based businessman, the central agency claimed that Ms. Kavita was a key member of the “South Group” which, through another arrested businessman, had collaborated with Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). “As per the investigation conducted so far, Shri Vijay Nair has received a bribe of at least Rs 100 crore from a group called South Group (controlled by Shri Sarath Reddy, Ms K Kavitha) on behalf of AAP leaders. K Kavitha or her party Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is yet to comment on the allegation.

The agency made these claims while seeking remand from a local court after the arrest of Amit Arora, director of liquor company Buddy Retail Pvt Ltd, on Tuesday night. He was later sent to ED custody till December 7 by the court.

In its filing, the agency also claimed that AAP leaders, some of whom are part of the government, considered Delhi’s excise policy a “tool” to generate illegal money at the cost of the state exchequer.

It said that at least 36 accused, including Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and PA to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, ‘destroyed’ or used 170 phones to hide evidence of bribes worth thousands of crores in the alleged scam.

This allegedly provided exorbitant wholesale and huge retail profit margins and encouraged illegal activities. The 12 per cent profit margin to wholesalers was allegedly designed to extract half of it as bribe to AAP leaders.
