The JD(U) leader made a statement to this effect at a function in Patna after the Bihar CM rejected him as his second deputy, apart from RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.

Dissatisfied with JDU, Upendra Kushwaha demanded party supremo on Thursday Nitish Kumar Unveil the truth behind the rumors of an alleged “deal” with the RJD over the chief minister’s post when the two decided to forge an alliance last year.

The JD(U) leader made a statement to this effect at a function in Patna after the Bihar CM rejected him as his second deputy, apart from RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.

Kushwaha, who less than two years ago merged his Rashtriya Lok Samata Party with the JD(U), accused the RJD of deviating from the socialist ideal of decentralization of power and “concentrating all authority within one family”. .

“They (RJD) speak as if socialism was all about overturning the power structure, making some OBC groups the new elite. It was not. And it was their rebellion against this trend that Samata Party came into existence, which later came to be known as JD(U),” Kushwaha said.

The former Union minister, however, said that “our party, too, has failed to provide power to the lowest strata of the society. And rumors of a tie-up with the RJD are causing tremendous dismay among the JD(U) rank-and-file.”

He alleged that RJD leaders are openly saying that it is the right time for CM Tejashwi Yadav to take over “as per the deal”.

Kushwaha said that the silence of our party is making the matter worse.

“I request the chief minister, our supreme leader and national president Rajeev Ranjan Singh alias Lalan to come up with the truth behind these rumours,” Kushwaha said.

Notably, speculation about Kumar agreeing to make way for Yadav had given ample indications in the past with the chief minister himself that he was ready to cede the post to Lalu Prasad’s younger son, his deputy.

Kushwaha claims that he had returned to the JD(U) at the behest of Kumar, who was left shattered by the party’s defeat in the 2020 assembly elections.

While Kumar has made it clear that Kushwaha has now become indispensable (‘where to go’), Kushwaha has made it clear that he will fight for his “share”.
