Communist Party of India (CPI) state assistant secretary JV Satyanarayana Murthy on Saturday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting in the city was disappointing and ineffectual. Shri Satyanarayana Murthy said that the Prime Minister had used the platform to boast of several steps being taken for the welfare of the country, but failed to mention what he would do for the further development of Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Satyanarayana Murthy alleged that this was the right opportunity for Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to demand pending issues in the state, but he has failed to do so as well. The CPI leader said that the prime minister did not even respond to the chief minister’s arguments during his speech. Mr. Satyanarayana Murthy also questioned why Mr. Jagan did not mention the issue of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant vigorously even though a resolution was passed in the assembly against its privatization. He alleged that the women of Dwakra were threatened and forcibly brought to the meeting.

Raising doubts over Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief Pawan Kalyan’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Satyanarayana Murthy said Mr. Kalyan appears to have softened his stand after the meeting. He alleged that Mr. Narendra Modi must have told Mr. Pawan not to raise his voice against the YSR Congress Party.

Members of the CPI(M) also criticized the Prime Minister for not speaking up about VSP privatization and other pending issues related to the state, especially North Andhra.

Meanwhile, a large number of protesters from CPI and CPI(M) protested near Krishna College Road. They also tried to take out a rally to the public meeting place at Maddilapalem and were detained by police parties.

VUPPC members, union members and leaders of VSP and Left parties staged a sit-in near the steel plant and prevented vehicles from entering the plant for nearly an hour.
