Ligue 1: Kevin Gamerio bolsters Strasbourg’s Champions League ambitions, organized by Monaco Lorient

Kevin Gamario scored the only goal as Strasbourg boosted Champions League ambitions as they beat Angers 1-0 on Sunday as Monaco missed another chance to maintain contact with the leaders after a goalless draw at home against lowly Lorient .

Strasbourg was one of the winners of the weekend as a win at Angers pushed Julian Steffen’s team just one point behind third-placed Nice, who had a chance to move to second place with a 2–0 loss to Lyon on Saturday. Missed.

Gameiro’s brilliant volley after 11 minutes was enough to score three points, as the former Paris Saint-Germain, Sevilla and Valencia striker scored his fifth goal in four league matches.

PSG extended their massive lead at the top of the table to 16 points on Friday. Second-placed Marseille plays at Metz later on Sunday.

Kylian Mbappe’s injury time winner scored a 1-0 win for PSG over Rennes before a performance in the knockout round of the Champions League with Real Madrid.

Monaco halted at its Louis-II stadium a week after a 2–0 loss to Lyon, the latest setback with Philippe Clément’s team finishing sixth, on equal points between Rennes and Lyon.

The Principality side could move to fifth place, they were outperformed by Brittany side Lorient who came to the Riviera after seven consecutive defeats in the league.

The stalemate allows third-placed Nice to maintain a five-point advantage over Monaco.

“We lacked proficiency in front of the target. It is always difficult to play against Lorient, who has proven himself in recent weeks against Lens and PSG,” said Clement.

“Standings? It’s always the same! We have to focus on ourselves and try our best to win.”

Lorient, level on points with Saint-Etienne, remain just above the relegation zone, having moved to the bottom of the table with a 2-1 win over fellow struggling Clermont.

“We bowed, but we didn’t break,” explained Lorient coach Christophe Pellissier.

“We are launched into our conservation campaign”.

Nantes scored a narrow 1–0 win over Reims, whose central defender and captain Younis Abdelhamid was sent off in the first quarter of an hour to put up a nasty fight over Fabio.

Moses Simon slotted in the resulting free kick, leaving the Canaries in eighth place, two points behind Lyon.

Cédric Hontondji gave Clermont the lead against Saint-Etienne just before the break, but Mahdi Kemara equalized after 71 minutes and Timothy Kolodzijek made the winner eight minutes from time.

Clermont are in 15th place, three points ahead of Troyes, who lost 5–1 in the mid-table to Brest.

Uruguay striker Martin Satriano, on loan from Italian champions Inter Milan, made a first-half brace for the Breton, with Franck Honoret grabbing two more after the break.
