Teenager murder in Jharkhand: Section 144 imposed in Hazaribagh, Giridih districts to stop spreading rumours

Section 144 has been imposed in Hazaribagh and Giridih districts of Jharkhand to check the spread of rumors related to the alleged mob lynching of a 17-year-old girl last week.

Rupesh Kumar Pandey, 17, died after he was allegedly attacked on February 5 in Kariyadpur village of Barhi police station area of ​​the district during an immersion procession after Saraswati Puja.

An angry mob torched six vehicles after a boy died during a clash between members of two communities in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district.

Apart from several unidentified people, a named FIR has been lodged against 27 people.

The boy’s relatives have sought action under the provisions of the Prevention of Mob Violence and Mob Lynching Bill, 2021, which aims to provide “effective protection” of people’s constitutional rights and prevent mob violence.

Business in banks and other institutions remained affected as internet services remained suspended for 36 hours after the incident.
