Liverpool win the FA Cup on penalties against Chelsea, keep hopes alive an unprecedented quadruple

Liverpool kept alive their chances of completing an unprecedented quadruplet by winning the FA Cup title on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp’s men beat Chelsea 6-5 on penalties in the Wembley final.

Liverpool kept their hopes of completing an unprecedented quadruple alive as the Reds won the FA Cup after an absorbing final against Chelsea on Saturday. Liverpool won 6–5 in a penalty shootout after finishing 0–0 after extra time.

It was Liverpool’s first FA Cup Final victory since 2006 and the second trophy of the season after a League Cup victory in February, which was also decided by a penalty shootout.

Substitute Costas Simikas scored the winning penalty on Saturday as Liverpool fans cheered at Wembley. Sadio Mane missed but Chelsea fell behind after Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta hit the post and Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson saved Mason Mount’s effort.

Liverpool won the English FA Cup final on Saturday as they went on to win 6-5 in a penalty shootout as the Wembley showpiece somehow ended 0-0 after extra time.

However, Liverpool suffered a setback as their top scorer Mohamed Salah suffered an injury. Salah went down with no other players around and received treatment on his right knee before he could walk without assistance.

Salah was replaced by Diogo Jota in the 33rd minute, with the game closed 0–0, where it was also at halftime.
Liverpool are three points behind Manchester City with 2 more games to go in the race for the Premier League title.

The Reds will face Southampton on Tuesday and Wolves next Sunday.

Liverpool will face Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League on 28 May.
