Lok Insaaf Party president and former MLA Simarjit Singh Bains surrendered in a rape case in a court here on Monday. Bains, 52, surrendered in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Harsimranjit Singh.
He is the main accused in the rape case of 44-year-old woman, a two-time MLA. On July 16, 2021, a case was registered against Bains and five others, including his two brothers, on the directions of a local court. The court had declared Bains and other accused absconders as they were not participating in the proceedings.
The victim had alleged in her complaint that the former MLA had raped her several times after she approached her for help in a property dispute case. Earlier, the police had arrested his brother and his personal assistant in the same case.
