A roadrage incident between two men went wrong as a scooter rider dragged a 71-year-old man, who was trying to escape, near the Magadi Road toll gate on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as 25-year-old Sahil, stopped his bike only after following and stopping an autorickshaw driver. When he was trying to call his friend for help, other motorists came and thrashed him and handed him over to the police.

According to the police, Muthappa Shivayogi, the owner of a printing press at Hegganahalli, was on his way to Thontapur Press when medical representative Sahil was hit by a car from behind.

Muthappa got down from the car and soon a heated argument broke out between them. In the scuffle, Sahil tried to run away, but Muthappa stopped him by holding the remaining handle of the scooter and lost balance as the scooter started moving. Muthappa is dragged along, while Sahil, fearing dire consequences, hops aboard thinking that he will be let go. But Muthappa did not give up and held on tight despite being pulled.

Soon, other motorists started shouting at Sahil, which made him panic and he tried to flee. A motorist stopped him near the metro station.

Muthappa was taken to a hospital near Adichunchanagiri Math, where he is undergoing treatment. The doctors are waiting for the reports to ascertain whether he has any internal injuries.

Reacting to the incident, Muthappa said Sahil was adamant and did not apologise: “If he had said sorry, I would have let him go. So, I tried to stop him and got dragged into the scuffle.

However, the police said that Sahil confessed to the Govindrajnagar police that he was scared of public anger and consequences and tried to flee.

Based on a complaint by Muthappa, the police registered a case against Sahil under sections 337 (causing hurt to a person by such rash or negligent act as to endanger human life), section 338 (causing grievous hurt to a person) did. by acting rashly or negligently as to endanger human life), and under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder). West Division DCP Laxman Nimbargi said the traffic police have registered a case for rash and negligent driving and also under various sections of the IMV Act.
