Ludhiana: Groups fired in the air, 14 booked; 8 held | Ludhiana News – Times of India

LUDHIANA: The Ludhiana Rural Police on Monday booked fourteen people in a case of attempt to murder after one of the members of the group opened fire in the air. The police have also arrested eight accused in the case.
Police officials said that a youth named Mani molested Anmol’s sister in the area and resisted the miscreant’s move, later allegedly thrashed her. He said that Anmol then called up his friends Kulwant, Raman, Gurmail, Sonu, who told him that they would see the crook.
Together, Mani called his uncle Preeti, who called his friends Gulshan Kumar Sheru of Jagraon and Kulip Singh Golu of Kaunke Kalan, and they started fighting with another group, police said. He told that earlier on Sunday also there had been a fight between the two groups over some issue.
Police officials said Sheru fired three times in Hawaii after a fight with a rival group on Monday morning. He told that incidentally a PCR was passing through the area after hearing the sound of bullets, they reached the spot after which the accused fled from the spot.
Police said that the police then took cognizance of the matter in which two groups were involved in creating ruckus in the area.
SSP Ludhiana Rural Harjeet Singh said that the accused persons fled the spot before they could fight. He said that based on the statement of ASI Balraj Singh, they have registered a case under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 160 (punishment for incitement), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) . and section 149 (unlawful assembly) of IPC and Arms Act.
Eight people have been arrested in the case, including six from one group and two from another, the police official said.
