Madhya Pradesh becomes first state to offer MBBS in Hindi

Madhya Pradesh government is all set to start courses in Hindi for medical students. With this, it will become the first state in the country to provide education in Hindi language to MBBS students.

On Tuesday, Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang told Live Hindustan that preparations are underway to start teaching MBBS courses to students in the state through Hindi medium. An initiative to change the curriculum in the state will be initiated from the Government Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal.

He informed that a 14-member high level committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Director Dr Jiten Shukla. The committee will prepare an action plan for preparation of MBBS syllabus in Hindi and will give its report on the matter soon.

On Republic Day this year, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced to provide all medical education in the state including MBBS through Hindi medium. This step was taken keeping in mind the students who study in Hindi medium till senior secondary level and suddenly switch to English while pursuing medical studies.

Soon after, the state’s medical education department started working towards implementing the Hindi curriculum. Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal is the first college to introduce the curriculum. Instructions have been given to the college by the department. From the next academic session, MBBS course classes will be conducted in Hindi language along with English.

In the first phase of the scheme, teachers will use Hindi language as far as possible during their class lectures. In the second phase, supplementary reference books for three subjects – Anatomy, Physiology and Bio-Chemistry – will be available in Hindi language for MBBS first year students. Various committees have been formed to implement this action plan.
