Karnataka announces exemption from penalty for changes in medical courses this year

The Karnataka government has directed the state examination authority not to impose fine on students who had engineering seats or who have already taken admission in engineering courses, who now seek admission in medical courses.

Sharing the development, Karnataka Higher Education Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said that he has directed the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) not to impose fines. However, he added that this provision for students would be applicable only for the current academic year.

The minister said that in previous years there used to be simultaneous allocation for engineering and medical courses. “But in the current year, the allotment of seats for medical courses got delayed due to a petition filed in the court regarding NEET exam, and this created uncertainty,” Narayan said.

“Students who had enrolled in engineering or had occupied engineering seats, but have now been allotted medical seats, can take admission in medical courses. There will be no penalty for this,” he said.

Narayan said, “In previous years, such students used to be fined five times of the fee. But this year, it was decided to take one year’s fee as penalty. However, now, this too has been canceled. has given.”
