Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister declared Mauganj as 53rd district before assembly elections

The new Mauganj district will be created by including four tehsils including three existing tehsils – Mauganj, Hanumana and Naigarhi, while Dev Talab will be a new tehsil.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced the creation of a new Mauganj district from the existing Rewa district.

With this, there will be 53 districts in Madhya Pradesh by August 15.

Making Mauganj tehsil a new district has been a years-old demand, which was announced by the ruling BJP government just eight months before the state’s assembly elections heat up.

The new Mauganj district will be created by including four tehsils including three existing tehsils – Mauganj, Hanumana and Naigarhi, while Dev Talab will be a new tehsil.

The new district in eastern Madhya Pradesh will also include two full assembly constituencies of the existing Rewa district, including Mauganj and Dev Talab, currently represented by senior BJP MP and current Assembly Speaker Girish Gautam.

Once Mauganj formally becomes a new district, it will be Madhya Pradesh’s new gateway to the Mirzapur-Varanasi region in eastern Uttar Pradesh, where the Prime Minister’s Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency is located. Narendra Modi and two other Lok Sabha seats in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a public welfare program in Mauganj in the presence of Assembly Speaker Gautam, Chief Minister Chouhan said, “A new Mauganj district will be formed by merging four tehsils – Mauganj, Hanumana, Naigarhi and Dev Talab. The process of making the district will start from today itself and on August 15, the national flag will be hoisted at the new district headquarters.

Meanwhile, the chief minister also transferred Rs 605 crore to the bank accounts of the families of 27,310 migrant workers under the Mukhyamantri Jan-Kalyan (Sambal) Yojana 2.0. He also laid the foundation stone and unveiled development works worth Rs 738.92 crore.

Apart from this, Chouhan also announced construction of town hall in Mauganj, development work in industrial area, degree college in Hanumana, ghat construction, road construction and various works in tribal sub-plan.

Addressing the program, Assembly Speaker Gautam said, “Today is a proud and historic day for Mauganj. Due to the efforts of CM, today finally the demand of many years is being fulfilled. It is a day of happiness, joy and celebration for us.”

The creation of Madhya Pradesh’s 53rd district out of the existing Rewa district is another step in the series of steps taken by the BJP government for development in the Vindhya region, where the BJP won a total of 30 seats. 24 seats (including all the eight seats in Rewa district) in the 2018 state assembly elections.

Recently, the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government announced a series of incentives for the Kol tribe (the dominant tribal group in the Vindhya region). Before that the foundation stone of the much-awaited Rewa airport was laid, after that it was announced to build the Bhopal-Singrauli Vindhya Express Highway.

Earlier in December 2022, the longest tunnel of Madhya Pradesh was also inaugurated in Sidhi district of Vindhya region.
