Mahindra & Mahindra launches the much awaited scorpio-ne Recently in the Indian market, the SUV registered over 1 lakh bookings in just half an hour. While the demand for the new Scorpio-N is indeed exceptional, Mahindra has decided to continue selling the previous generation Scorpio With the new model as a relatively affordable option.
The previous-gen Scorpio will be revamped as the Scorpio Classic, and is expected to feature a few cosmetic updates – one of which will be the addition of Mahindra’s latest ‘twin-peaks’ SUV logo, which debuted on the XUV700. And it is also seen on Scorpio-n. it means that Scorpio Classic This will be the third offering in Mahindra’s line-up to use the new logo.
This move is probably done to attract a wider set of buyers. Mahindra had previously done something similar with the Bolero, rebranding the TUV300 as Bolero Neo, and continued to sell it alongside the regular Bolero. The introduction of the Scorpio Classic may help the brand appeal to buyers who prefer the rugged and utilitarian look of the old Scorpio.
The Scorpio Classic is expected to come equipped with a larger touchscreen infotainment system than the old Scorpio along with new upholstery and dashboard inserts. The SUV is likely to come equipped with new vertical slats as well as a redesigned front bumper and a larger front grille with the new Mahindra SUV logo. As per the spy shots, the Scorpio Classic will also be equipped with dual-tone alloy wheels.
The new Scorpio Classic is likely to be powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine as before. This engine makes 140 PS of maximum power and 319 Nm of peak torque, and will likely be available with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. As far as the price is concerned, the Scorpio Classic will surpass the Scorpio-N, which means it could be priced around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
