Malakpet Rab: GHMC gets its job done

The excessive traffic congestion near Malakpet’s Under Road Bridge (RUB) is heading towards a solution due to construction of vents proposed soon by South Central Railway.

A second railway vent was proposed in addition to the existing one for free traffic flow on both sides of the road to decongest the congested areas near Malakpet and Chadarghat.

Every day thousands of vehicles move towards Dilsukhnagar and Chadarghat in the narrow stretch of RUB. The situation has worsened after the construction of a metro rail station at the location, resulting in slowing down of vehicles irrespective of the time of day.

To rectify the situation, it was decided to build another RUB in parallel with the existing RUB.

The work is divided between GHMC and SCR, in which part of the vent under the bridge is to be built by the Railways, while the approach road and a bridge over the drain are the responsibilities of the GHMC.

Officials said that the construction of a small connecting bridge of 21 meters length and 12 meters width has been completed over the drain.

By relocating various utilities including power lines and water pipelines, access roads for a length of 234.5 meters have been cleared.

“Our work is done now. Only the railway part is left,” said a senior engineering official.

He said that the construction of the vent of 37 meters in length, 11 meters in width and 4.5 meters in height may take six months.
