College principal Anasuya Rai told TOI that Gaussia and two other girls had held a press conference regarding the hijab ban, and addressed the media during class hours. they were served with a Show cause notice on Monday, and he had to answer it by Thursday. However, none of them have surfaced. “On Thursday, we drafted a letter addressed to the registrar of Mangalore University, asking what further steps can be taken. The decision will be taken after getting the reply from the Mangalore University officials.
Mangalore University Vice Chancellor PS Yadapadithya said that there will be Muslim girl students Suspended from the college, if they fail to respond to the show cause notice. “However, we will wait for some time for their reply,” Yadapadithaya said.
Yadapadithaya also clarified that no matter regarding the hijab ban at the University College will be discussed in the special syndicate meeting to be held on Saturday. “The Syndicate meeting has been called purely to discuss other issues of the University. Mangalore University has already taken a decision regarding the hijab ban in its constituent colleges, and it will remain in force. There is no reconsideration on the decision taken by the Mangalore University Syndicate,” he insisted.
